So a lightsaber is not an actual blade, but instead a type of beam of plasma. This allows it to burn/cut through anything. It's also near weightless. That means you can perform a quick jab at a person so that they have little to no time to defend. So, as it is said when a user with a lightsaber goes to swing, you would with a bat in a fight, at another lightsaber user, you leave yourself open doing so. That lightsaber user can quickly adjust the lightsaber they are using and stab or slash the opponent. What point is there to have a large amount of force behind a lightsaber if it is not going to affect its ability to slide through the opponent.
